We chose a corner away from the live entertainment so we could “review effectively”, and the table-top festivities began on cue. As we were enjoying a Guacamole con Queso Combo, I learned that Uncle Julio’s has 16 locations in total! Five in Dallas, Texas, six in Washington, DC, two in Chicago and one location in Florida…that’s where we are! So I guess Florida is lucky to have at least one UJ’s! Apparently this restaurant chain is more popular than I had realized.
The use of high quality Haas Avocados make Uncle Julio’s guacamole so delicious! Combining the "guac" with the highly addictive melted cheese, warm tortilla chips and salsa, made for a great combo. We were also digging some Pork and Chicken Tamales traditionally wrapped in corn husks, and excellent Fried Calamari that was crisped to perfection. A good fried calamari dish to me is crispy, golden brown and never greasy. I just described Uncle Julio’s Calamari for you. A squeeze of lemon and that’s about all you need. The flavor of the obviously not pre-frozen calamari was right on the money. UJ's Totilla Chips, Corn Tamales, Enchiladas, Tacos and more, are made on premises...a nice touch, and you can certainly tell from the first bite.
Speaking of flavor, the Classic or Passion Fruit margaritas and Dos Equis XX beer make for some tasty food pairings at Uncle Julio’s…trust me.
Dinners were truly excellent, exhibiting first class flavors I never expected to experience at a casual looking Mexican restaurant…but I did! The Acapulco Shrimp were grilled and the spicy mango salsa is right up my culinary alley. Natasza’s Honey & Chipotle Glazed Salmon was moist and ever-so-flaky. Impressed from the start, we were well prepared for a dessert of Coconut Flan and Chocolate Empanada. It was at this time we experienced the most incredible Coconut Flan this side of the Pacific Ocean. Giant, wet and quivering (get your minds out of the gutter), this flan was made to extreme Food Network© perfection and precision. The Chocolate Empanadas were nothing to complain about either… rich and delectable. Somebody stop me!
Check out Uncle Julio’s pronto! Tell em’ “That Blue-Eyed Gringo” Tom House from Dinnerreviews.com© sent you. Ole Baby!
